When my parents divorced in 1978 my mom moved us back to IL from VA. I was a third grader and cried as we left, even then i didnt want to go back. All of our family was there. Over the decades they all left. Same with my wife's family until only my mom, her sisters family and her fad and wife. We finally left and mived south for a job transfer. I had wanted to leave for decades. Anyone staying there, i have zero pity for. You've been warned for many many years. Better weather here and cut our property taxes by 75% then. Wven more niw since taxes where we used to live increased hundred$ each year. Here, they dont. IL is a good place to work but when you retire or get an opportunity, get out ASAP.

Even if you were to loose a bit in selling a house, and paying property taxes, you are STILL better with home ownership overall because you have equity. In renting a home or apartment with that square footage, parking spot (garage), paying for storage space, etc, all that money is just gone. Of course NEVER buy during a bubble and many areas are in a bubble. I live in West Michigan and for the most part our homes are not in a bubble. No dramatic increases but won't crash when the bubble bursts.

The contrast between the store fronts in the small towns in the red and blue states is dramatic. The red is thriving, and industry is occurring everywhere you look, while in the blue states, the decaying and desolation is obvious.

Another thing about job postings, esp. at big companies, is that it typically takes a long time to get a new position created through the HR process and even though the company will send out internal notices to freeze job hiring, these departments will keep the job positions open because if they close them, they loose that potential job in their department. I saw this during covid, lost my job and I was applying and not getting any response. Not till the January when covid when the lockdowns were stopped did I get a flood or responses to jobs I had applied for.

Fake job listings should be banned and made illegal by the government. However, our government does not care about us average citizens and as an investor, fake job listings are basically defrauding investors by inflating the actual worth of the company.
